A poem and a prayer, words whispered in the dark not for the first or last time.
~
Eden,
You have the best seat in the house
You get to see the full yellow moon,
The constellations are at your fingertips.
Orion’s Belt is really clear tonight
The three studs in his belt stand out against the night sky.
I think of you skipping by them as your fingers graze each starry point,
And when morning comes you sit on the edge of the horizon
Watching the gold chase away the dark blue.

Thank you, God, for my son
Whose sweet face is still and peaceful in sleep.
Thank you for his laughter and his smiles.
They bring so much joy to so many people.
I hope that he will never lose his easy smile.
Asking You for his life to be free from hardship and heartache would not be practical.
Instead, I pray that he will be able to smile in every circumstance, good or bad.
I pray that he will have gentle strength and bold love.
I pray that I will love him well.
Amen.
