Ecclesiastes: Faithful and Kind

I’ve wanted to write a song based on Scripture for a long time.
I was inspired by Shane and Shane’s albums, as well as Red Rock Worship. Writing praise songs has never been easy for me…it always feels cheap.
But the Bible is never cheap. And there are songs literally written without a melody. So maybe I’ll start there.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 ESV

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Version 1:
For everything there is a season…
For everything there is a time…
My soul can rest assured
With peace in heart and mind
I may never know the reason…
Some things may never be fine…
For everything my soul can rest assured
My God is faithful and kind.

Chorus:
Deliver us from the evil one
Who follows day and night
The darkness only flees before
The Way, the Truth, the Life
Bind up the brokenhearted
With gentleness and might
Though blinded by our sorrow
May Your love return our sight

Verse 2:
For everything there is a season…
For everything there is a time…
This thorn may stay here pressed in my side
But my God’s still faithful and kind
Some things might escape our reason
You might feel distant for a time
Still for everything my soul can rest assured
My God is faithful and kind.
